Post subject: Modding the Original XBox
Poover,
Looking for some info to turn my original XBox into a Media Center Adapter so I can stream music & recorded TV from my Media Center PC to it. Let me know what it takes and where to get the parts
I did not personally obtain nor install the mod chip myself - but I did add a larger HDD and install updated software. Installing the mod chip *should* be pretty easy; they even make a (more expensive) solder-less version. Chips run anywhere from $40 to $70 or more. I believe I have a "Xenium" chip.
Also, an IRC channel called #xbins on Efnet gives out a username and password to an FTP server that contains all the software for XBMC. There's program calls "Slayer's" something that installs all the software required - like XBMC, DVD to HD, etc.,.
FredBear: You and Mage should get together and both mod your Xboxs. I'll help in any way I can. Hope this was helpful.
The mod-chips.com site really talks up the Xenium (They claim this is the chip they recommend to anyone that asks "which one should I get"...), but reviewing the matrix on xbox-scene.com seems to imply the Xecuter has some extra features...
It looks like the Xenium and the Xecuter are the two top chips...
There doesn't seem to be any product info on these chips from the manufacturers though, you really have to dig around.
Which other (if any) chips did you look at? What lead you to pick the Xenium?

I didn't look at any chips. The dude who installed it for me happened to have a Xenium on hand. I can recommend it - but I have no experience with any others. _________________
Bigger is always better - especially when it comes to disc space, imho. I have a 120 GB drive with plenty of space. I really only use it for watching .avi and .wmv files - which are by nature kinda small; I've only copied a few games to the HD, but most are only ~ 2.5 GB, or less. I say go at least 120 GB and get the best deal you can.
As long as your PC has a big disc, you can stream EVERYTHING to the XBMC! _________________
