Has anyone attempted to play a burned Dual Layer DVD+R in their 360? Mine can't seem to read them - I believe due to the laser, which may need to be cleaned.

p.s. it's NOT the brand - I use Verbatim - which are the best DL media.

Could be the format +R, could be your burner. I haven't tried it yet, i will tonight, but I know that I burn +r movies on my rebranded 'Khypermedia' DVD burner, and it won't play on one of my DVD players. The movies my mom burns with her +R burner works just fine.

If you have a shit burner, it might not work with certain dvd players. I have a shit burner. sigh.

Ok - so I tried cleaning the DVD drive w/ one of those cleaning discs; afterward, the DL disc is recognized only once. After that, the drive makes a crazy grinding/read noise when I put a disc in and is unable to read the DL disc. So - I was right, the problem is intermittent. Also, I believe the laser becomes too weak or misalgined to read the DL media.

I'm either going to clean the drive - or buy a new drive (after dumping the firmware from the original drive to flash the new drive). I suspect it may cure any "failed to load maps" error in Halo 2 as well Smile

The drive that is in the 360 is pretty much a piece pf crap. My Oblivion disc which doesn't have a spec of dust or a scratch on it gets read errors pretty consistently. ...which is probably due to the game being poorly organized on the disc, but the reader should be fast enough to get to the content.
